The Sheep is one of the most common and important domestic animals in the world. For many thousands of years, Sheep have been bred for their meat, skins, fleece, as well as their milk. There are many breeds of Sheep within this species, and they can vary greatly in size and appearance.

Sheep are often raised in flocks, or large groups. They are naturally an animal that responds to a single leader, following them in a herd like manner. Since they are a very defenseless creature, staying in a large group is the primary way that they protect themselves from predators like wolves, coyotes, bears and birds of prey.

The Sheep is a very voracious grazing animal, consuming large amounts of vegetation as it feeds from dawn until dusk. It can easily consume a pasture in record time, so it is often necessary to rotate flocks in and out of different pastures in order to allow them time to regrow. Their unbridled appetites can also be beneficial in managing invasive plants since they really love to eat plants and weeds that can interfere with crop growth.

The Sheep has a long and rich history in literature, religion, mythology and art. It’s interconnectedness with humanity cannot be overstated, as it has long provided us with so many forms of sustenance.
